Murals At Degaldoruwa Wiharaya

 



The Degaldoru Vihara near Kandy was built and offered by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe. The idol house here is a cave temple. In front of it is a pavilion. The walls of the statue house are adorned with Binnin silhouettes facing the pavilion. Binny's Jataka stories are drawn in small columns. Seelava, Wessanthara Sutasoma and Sattu Hantha are some of the Jataka stories depicted here. Wessanthara Jataka has a prominent place. There are 25 incidents in the picture, and the title of the incident is written under each picture.

           Here are some of them:

  • The four kingdoms are ruled by Maharajano.
  • When the person who was born asked for alms from the mother goddess.
  • Coronation.
  • The donation of elephants.
  • Vesathuru Rajano was ruled by Dasaraja Dhamma.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    The paintings on the double door were painted by a person named Dewaragampola Silvath Thana.
