Ussangoda Beach


Ussangoda beach is an important milestone in the field of tourism. It is located in Nonagama area in Hambantota district. This is a very beautiful smoky area. Its main feature is the reddening of the soil. There are a number of reasons for this. There are also some folktales. It is said that this was due to a meteorite.


It is also an archeological site named as a National Park. This is located in the Turtle Breeding Zone on the South Coast. This area, unlike other land areas, is covered with grass. One of the most popular legends associated with Ussangoda is that this was the territory of the local god "Mangara". It is also mentioned that this extends to the history of King Rawana. According to Hindu mythology, Ussangoda was the landing place of King Rawana's "Pushpaka Vimana".


However, today the Ussangoda beach has become a popular tourist destination for both local and foreign tourists.

    I have been to many beaches in the Southern Province but I have missed the Ussangoda beach. When I read this I remembered Chamara Weerasinghe's song "Ussangoda Kandu Mudunata".
