Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike

 



Sirima Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike, popularly known as Sirimavo Bandaranaike, is a Sri Lankan woman who became the first woman Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in 1960. She was also the first woman Prime Minister of the world in 1960.


Born into an upcountry aristocratic family, he was educated in English. She was well educated and after graduating from high school, she got involved in politics and later became the Prime Minister. W.W. R. D. With Mr. Bandaranaike.


Her social work focused on improving the lives of rural women and girls. Entering politics after the assassination of her husband in 1956, she became the President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and led her party to victory in the July 1960 elections.


She is a woman with very straightforward decisions. But her reign was marked by insufficient economic development at the national level. She was later removed from government for seven years for abuse of power. However, she later returned to politics and was re-elected Prime Minister in 1994 when her daughter won the presidential election.

However, she passed away on October 10, 2000, after a long political career.
